Seeking: Senior Pastor

Seeking: Senior Pastor

Job Description:

North Hills Community Baptist Church (NHCBC) is in search of an inspirational leader to fill a vacancy created by the retirement of its long-time Senior Pastor. The ideal candidate would have a Master’s Degree (M.Div. or equivalent) and be an ordained minister in American Baptist Churches USA.

NHCBC is a multi-generational, multi-cultural church located about eight miles north of downtown Pittsburgh, with a very welcoming and mission-minded congregation and a blended morning worship service. The engaged congregation desires to increase its outreach to the community in new and greater ways than in the past. NHCBC is known for its pastoral stability and pastoral support. The church is actively involved in Baptist and ecumenical groups on a local, regional, national, and international basis.

Professional Specialties Needed:

  • Pastoral Care
  • Interpreting the Faith
  • Counseling
  • Community Assessment/Involvement/Organizer
  • Church Growth

From the Church
North Hills Community Baptist Church is a fellowship of many different people, from diverse backgrounds and communities, tied together by our faith in Jesus Christ. Our membership includes many people from many different countries and the NHCBC “family footprint” spans from McCandless to Mars, from Pittsburgh to Pine, and from West View to Wexford. In fact, over 20 different zip codes are represented by the membership of the church. Our youth group represents six different school districts in the Pittsburgh area.

With all the diversity and distance represented in the congregation, our name is truly descriptive of what we are: a welcoming community in Christ. The Greek word for “church” means “to be called out from.” The people of the North Hills Community Baptist Church have been called out from all walks of life from all over God’s kingdom to be the body of Christ in this place.

Throughout the week we gather for worship, education and fellowship. We engage in a full schedule—Bible studies, choirs, prayer groups, dinners, youth groups, mission work. The building on the corner of Thompson Run and McIntyre is the center of our congregation’s life, but the other hours of the week find the church scattered throughout Western Pennsylvania and beyond. The people of this church go to school, to work, clean homes and raise families. All that we do is inspired by the knowledge that we are a new creation. We have been claimed by Jesus Christ, and life will never be the same again.

Our Mission
Our mission is to advance the Kingdom of God and to be the Body of Christ. We serve God individually and together through:

  • Seeking and following the direction of the Holy Spirit
  • Living our lives as exemplified by Jesus Christ
  • Worshiping God
  • Sharing the good news of God’s love and forgiveness
  • Teaching God’s word and making disciples
  • Serving the people God brings into our lives

Our Vision
The Vision of the North Hills Community Baptist Church is to build upon the Body of Christ by growing together, reaching others and gathering followers. Baptists do not use a creed to which every member must subscribe. The sole authority for our faith and practice is the Bible itself. Years ago, a Christian scholar affirmed this principle: “In essentials, unity. In non-essentials, liberty. In all things, charity.” This is a fitting motto for the North Hills Community Baptist Church.

A summary of the distinctive beliefs of Baptists is arranged in the following
acrostic:

  • Bible as sole authority
  • Autonomy of each local congregation
  • Priesthood of all believers
  • The value of religious liberty
  • Immersion of believers as a symbol of faith
  • Salvation by faith alone
  • Telling others about Christ
