Isaiah’s vision is not a vision of the way things are, but the way things will be. In the meantime, the prophet says, “Get to work!” In its historical context, it’s about 535 B.C. The exiled Israelites come home, but things are in shambles. There’s a lot of work to be done. Thus the command: Arise! Shine! There’s a lot of work to be done in 2021, too.
