We don’t often talk about ‘longing for God’. Yet we’ve all had the experience. How discouraging it must have been for the disciples to say ‘goodbye’ to Jesus after they had already lost him once to death. Our desire for Jesus is no less strong. It’s a kind of homesickness. As Augustine once famously said, “Our hearts are restless till they find their rest in thee.”
